Playa La Virgen, Puerto Viejo: This is an incredible nook that reminds us of Caribbean landscapes because of its warm and calm waters and its white sands. Playa La Virgen is located 7 kilometers from Puerto Viejo (70 kilometers from Copiapó).

It is ideal for bathing, diving and underwater hunting; its waters are warm and crystal-clear. Playa La Virgen also offers the possibility of practicing shore fishing, kayaking, volleyball, and horseback riding. In the surroundings you can find some cabins, a camping site and a picturesque restaurant by the sea.
 
Because of its natural attractions, Playa La Virgen is among the most beautiful beaches in Chile, along with the nearby Bahía Inglesa. It owes its name to the characteristic rock in the shape of a virgin that caused many legends and today is considered the symbol of the place. If you travel from Copiacó, you will be able to enjoy the impressive panoramas offered along the way by an oasis area that abruptly interrupts the desert landscape, and for a stretch of the journey will give you the illusion of visiting a southern forest.
 
If you travel to Playa La Virgen, you can organize an excursion to Puerto Viejo, which used to be the port of reference of Copiacó, playing the role of Caldera today. At present the beach of Puerto Viejo offers the possibility of bathing and sport fishing in an interesting natural environment, although the town itself has no tourist implementation and most of their homes have a temporary use.

The Japanese tsunami in 2010 affected many rooms, but for light constructions the damage was not huge and no losses were registered.
